This course will look at the challenges and opportunities  German immigrants experienced, and their  impressions of the New World, through letters  they wrote back to the homeland in the 19th  century.

Angela Weber, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bonn. Her English translations of German  immigrant letters are published in Claire Gebben’s memoir How We Survive Here. Angela has done  extensive research on transatlantic migration and taught at the universities of Marburg and Bonn. She  lives in Marburg, Germany.
